I've found a pet I want to adopt - what's next?
So you've spotted a pet that you think might be 'the one' - that's pawsome!
The first step is to thoroughly read the pet’s profile to understand their needs and determine whether they’d be a good fit for your home, and you for them! Ensure you’ve also read the rescue organisation's adoption policy if it’s mentioned in the profile.
Sending an enquiry
For a quick response, you can use the preferred method of contact listed on the pet's profile page, as this can vary from group to group. Some shelters and pounds prefer you to phone them and will provide their number for you to call. For those who state email as their preferred method of contact, please click the ‘Enquire about this pet’ button above the pet’s profile picture. Some rescue organisations require adopters to fill out an external adoption application form. This may be linked in the pet’s profile or will be sent through to you by the group once you enquire. The more details you can provide about your home, lifestyle and other pets, the better! This helps the rescue group match the pets in their care with their perfect new home as quickly as possible.
Create an adopter profile
Setting up an adopter profile is easy, and it means that rescue groups you contact can learn more about your household and the type of home you could offer their pet. To create your profile, make sure you've created an account with PetRescue, then click the menu button at the top left of your screen. Under My Account, click Adopter Profile, and follow the prompts!
Next steps
Usually, the process will consist of a chat with the group or completing a pre-adoption questionnaire, organising a meet-and-greet with the pet, and completing the adoption paperwork.
