PetRescue membership requirements

As a member of the PetRescue community, we know that you already uphold a high standard of care and services in rehoming & rescue. The Australian public recognises PetRescue members as trusted and reputable representatives of the rescue community.

But with the rise in popularity of rescue pets, Australia has seen an increase in adoption and donations scams, short-lived rescue ventures, and individuals and organisations not doing right by the pets in their care.

As per the PetRescue Membership Code, two key requirements to gain membership include:

  • Members must have an active Australian Business Number (ABN) registered in the name of the organisation or linked to the organisation as an ASIC registered business.
  • Members must provide a veterinary reference that can confirm their organisation as a client of their clinic, that they have seen & completed vet work on their pets, and verify their rescue efforts. Exceptions may apply for council facilities who are not yet actively rehoming or able to meet state rehoming requirements or PetRescue rehoming requirements. Veterinary references are not required for veterinary members.
