Vet clinics who are looking to support their clients that need to rehome their pets

A rehoming and surrender referral program by PetRescue

About Home2Home

As you may know, Home2Home (H2H) is an assisted rehoming program powered by PetRescue. This hands on owner support service gives pet guardians an alternative option to surrendering their pet. Not only does Home2Home prevent pets from entering the system, it also helps free up space and resources for the most at-risk and vulnerable pets in the rescue community.

The program supports pet owners who have the capacity to care for their pet during the adoption process by assisting them to find a new loving home for their pet. If possible, the program provides support to owners to help them avoid rehoming their pet, which is often seen as a last resort. This is the ultimate goal, keeping people and pets together!

How does it work?

Benefits to your clinic

  • Less pressure on the clinic to provide a temporary home for pets
  • Lower rates of elective euthanasia
  • Offering positive, effective support to your client during a difficult time
  • The opportunity for continuity of care for the pet and their new owners
  • Providing an alternative to surrendering to a shelter or council facility

‘’I could choose the right home for Chase, knowing him best I knew what he needed, and I knew where he would be most comfortable, safe and well looked after.

Thank you for your help in making the painful process of having to give up a pet more manageable and giving us the relief of knowing we did the right thing for our fur baby.’’

The criteria for pets to be eligible for rehoming through the Home2Home program:

  1. The owner must continue to care for the pet throughout the process of finding their pet a new home, or have a carer who’s happy to assist with this (including conducting meet & greets). A minimum of six weeks is required.
  2. All pets must be desexed, microchipped and vaccinated with the core vaccinations given within the last three years.
  3. For pets with chronic medical conditions, they must be stable and under the care of a veterinarian. Owners will need to supply a veterinary history for their pet when they apply to the program.
