When does a puppy/kitten become an adult dog/cat in the PetRescue search results?

On our platform, we use search filters so interested pet searchers can pinpoint the kind of pet they are looking to adopt. 

One of these filters distinguishes pets by age - puppy or kitten/dog or cat/senior - so that website users can narrow down their search and find the perfect pet at the perfect age.

We class kittens as being 6 months of age or less and puppies as 8 months of age or less. Enabling this age filter as a searcher as will only return results of pets that fall within that age bracket. 

For seniors, cats and dogs are only listed as ‘Senior’ at the discretion of the rescue group managing the listing. This is due to the expected age of particular pets varying so widely. The ‘Senior’ filter option can be selected for pets listed who are over four years of age.
