Become a supporter of the Home2Home program
Home2Home is an assisted rehoming program powered by PetRescue. This hands-on owner support service gives pet owners an alternative option to surrendering their pet. Not only does Home2Home prevent pets from entering the pound system, but it also helps free up space and resources for the most at-risk and vulnerable pets in the rescue community.
The program supports pet owners who have the capacity to care for their pet during the adoption process by assisting them to find a new loving home for their pet. If possible, the program provides support to owners to help them avoid rehoming their pet, which is often seen as a last resort. This is the ultimate goal: keeping people and pets together!
We would love for your organisation to become involved in Home2Home! There are two ways to support the Home2Home program:
1) By becoming a Home2Home Partner. If you’re finding your surrender list keeps growing and there are only so many animals you can help, Home2Home can help lighten the load. For any cases where an owner is happy to continue caring for their pet until a new home is found you can suggest Home2Home as an option. This way, you can use your limited time and resources to focus on those pets that don’t have any other option and need immediate assistance and safe passage. It takes little work from your end - simply point them to the Home2Home application page!
2) By becoming a Home2Home Safety Net Group for any pet adoption in your state. Should an adoption not work out and the adopters require immediate assistance, we will then require your organisation’s support to take the pet into care. The period in which a safety net group may be engaged is after the 14-day cooling-off period and 3 months post-adoption. Over the past two years, a Safety Net Group stepped in 3 times out of the 747 pets coming through the program. As a Safety Net for the chosen species of pet in your state, you’ll receive a monthly donation from us for every pet of that species that is adopted through the Home2Home program, even if you don’t have to take them into care.
By offering owners a solution to rehoming that gives them control of the process and allowing them to interact with the new owner and feel assured that they have found a great home, we can focus on pets that really have nowhere else to go, such those in high kill pounds and shelters.
As a Safety Net Group, we benefit from being able to direct potential surrender requests to the program, which reduces the number of pets that need our care. We also receive a monthly donation for each cat that is successfully rehomed through the program. In the rare event that we need to step in, all the hard work has been done, such as collecting vet records and listing photos and information.
