Updating the status of a pet listing
Keeping pet listings up-to-date is quick and easy. Doing this helps prospective adopters stay engaged and committed to their search for a rescue pet - which means more rescue pets find loving homes!
To edit a pet's status - log in and go to Manage My Pets to locate the pet listing that you wish to update. Once on the pet's listing, you will find the option Update Status at the top of their listing and details. Click on the drop-down, select the status you'd like to update to and then click the 'Update Status' button.

So, which status should you use?
Draft
When a listing is a draft, it won’t show up in the search results, alerts or other public areas of the platform - it will only be visible to the listing owner and admins of the group. The listing also won’t be subject to many of the stringent rules we have in place for certain information being set - which allows your team to create listings that are half-finished (drafts!). Available
This is the default status for new pet listings. Available pets are shown in the search results and will generate adoption enquiries.
On hold
The On hold status can be used in a few ways and is a great tool for managing your incoming enquiries. This status removes a pet from the public search listings.
You can use on hold for pets that:
- Have an adoption application in process
- Have already received several promising enquiries that your team is processing
- Are undergoing an adoption trial
- Are undergoing medical treatment or further behavioural assessment
Using this option can save you valuable time if you don’t want to field any more enquiries for that pet. You can inform existing enquirers with an automated message so that they don't continue to follow up about that pet.
You can easily change the pet from on hold back to available should you need to.
Adopted
That’s our favourite! Once your pets are safe and snug in their new homes, be sure to select the adopted status. Marking your pet as Adopted will also allow you to send an automated message to all your enquirers, letting them know that your pet has been adopted so they can continue their search for a furry friend on PetRescue.
Removed
The removed status can be used when pets have been euthanised, passed away in care or are no longer available for adoption.
Note: Unlike the other options, 'remove' can be found on the pet listing under 'Your Tools'.
